One common misconception is that fiberglass pools will pop or float out of the ground. Your common sense probably made you wonder about this claim, now didn't it? This statement is a favorite of our vinyl and guinite competition and we just can't wait to set the record straight, because they look so silly after you know the facts.. Just like any boat made of wood, fiberglass, steel or even concrete barges and tanks, any watertight object (in this case, your pool) can float if there is no water in it but there is water under it. Scientifically, this is water seeking to find its own level, and the principle of displacement at work! Hopefully, all pools are watertight. Any reason to drain a pool in the first place, such as the need to resurface, acid wash to remove algae, or drain to correct a severe chemical out of balance does not apply to fiberglass pools in the first place, so there is no real need to drain a fiberglass pool. However, vinyl or guinite pools do need this type of renovation. Due to this required maintenance, the true number of guinite and vinyl pools that become dislodged or float is much higher than fiberglass pools. |
